How to Create Footnotes

Follow

Footnotes should always be indicated with a number set in superscript.

superscript

To enter a superscript number, position your cursor where you want to put the footnote, then click the “x2” icon on the toolbar and enter your text. As with bold, italic, or any other text formatting button on the toolbar, for as long as the “x2” is highlighted, anything you type will display as superscript. Be sure you turn it off (by clicking it again) after you’ve coded the footnote number or you might end up with a bunch of text that looks like this. Again, just like the other formatting functions, you can also highlight text and then click on the “x2” icon to format everything you select as superscript.

Every footnote reference you code in the Article Body should have a corresponding footnote in the “Article Footnotes” field, which you’ll find below the “Article Body” field.

Ideally, your footnotes should be typed directly into this field. However, if you are bringing your footnote information in from another source, as with the Article Body field, be very careful when copying and pasting information from another document. (Consult “Populating Infobase CMS Text Fields from Existing Files” before you proceed.)

On the toolbar, you’ll see an option to create a numbered list. Tempting as it may be to use this function for your footnotes, for the time being, you should number all of your footnotes manually.
