Purpose:
The content advisory flags are meant to provide information to instructors and viewers about the content of our video, and to alert them to any materials that may deal with sensitive subjects or contain objectionable material. This data will be used to deliver text based messages to users within our products and/or filter out/restrict any objectionable content within their account.
Guidelines for Setting Advisory Flags:
Multiple advisory flags may be set for a single title. It is preferred to error on the side of caution and select more flags for a title in question than less. If for example, a title is about drug use and sexual assault then we shouldn’t limit our description to one or the other issue since they both might matter (and in different ways) to different viewers.
Use your best judgment to limit these warnings to content that could create problems in a classroom rather than fleeting images or words – for example, fleeting glimpses of people in a crowd who have cigarettes may not qualify for the “smoking” warning but main characters in the video smoking cigars definitely would. Our goal here is to provide information about any potentially objectionable content we’re aware of in the programs so that instructors are not surprised by it and can plan their classes accordingly.
Setting Flags:
The flags are located in two places within the MMS:
- On the Editing -> Media Details page of a title.
- On the Metadata -> Flags section of the EdGate Tool.
Click on the Pencil icon to switch into editing mode. Set the desired flags, and use the Save button to commit your changes.
